Companion Upright Memorials

Please keep in mind that some cemeteries may have rules and restrictions on the type and size of memorial you may set at your cemetery, so please check with your cemetery sexton or cemetery association prior to making arrangements.

Companion upright memorials are the most common type of memorials and can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. An upright memorial is comprised of two individual pieces: the top, which is referred to as the "die" or "tablet", and the granite base that supports the die. The die can come in any shape, including hearts, crosses, cowboy hats or any other conceivable shape.

There is a special type of companion memorial that consists of two individual dies that sit on a single granite base. These memorials are called "Wing" monuments. They usually have a vase nestled between the individual dies.

A companion upright memorial will usually measure 4'0" (48") in length, 6" in width and stand 1'6" (18") or 1'8" (20") high. The granite base will extend an additional 6" on each side of the die, so the total length of the base will be one foot longer than the length of the die. A typical base will measure 5'0" (60") in length (using the standard size for a die), 1'0" (12") in width and stand 6" high. The base will contribute to the overall height of the memorial by adding an extra 6" to the height of the die. This is in addition to the die height of 1'6" or 1'8". Again, these are standard sizes, and you may choose to go smaller or larger.

Please keep in mind that all monuments are washed thoroughly after setting. The memorials below may appear darker or discolored because the memorial was not completely dry when the photo was taken.
